The London Borough of Haringey is located Northwest of London City Airport a distance of around 17 miles a journey that would take around 30 minutes by taxi via the A406. It is situated in Northern London and shares borders with six other london boroughs Enfield, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington, Camden, and Barnet. It has a population of 255,500 according to 2011 statistics.
Haringey is the 11th smallest borough by area and its diverse population means that half of all school pupils in the borough speak English only as a second language and it is estimated that 193 are spoken throughout. Haringeys claim to fame is that the BBC broadcast the first regular TV service from Alexandra Palace in 1936 and famouse names such as writer Sir John Betjeman lived in West Hill and Karl Marx is buried in the Highgate Cemetery. Musician David Gray, and David Tennant of Dr Who also have resided there.
There are plenty of highlights that attract many visitors to the borough including The Cineword cinema in Wood Green plays host to the International Short Film Festival every year, Tottenham Hotspur football club, the first British club to win a major European Trophy, Alexandra Palace hosts many national events and Bruce Castle Museum - a 16th Century manor house that houses local history collections relating to the Borough of Haringey beautifully situated in 20 acres of parkland.
